Flawless software performance motivates QA Specialist Perttu Mutanen
“It is genuinely motivating to spot an issue and get it fixed before the customer ever notices it. That’s when I feel my work truly makes a difference”, says Perttu Mutanen, who transitioned from a role in software support to quality assurance (QA) at Granlund.
When Perttu Mutanen joined Granlund in software support, he did not expect to later work as a tester in the same company. He values the opportunity to grow internally.
“It means a lot to be trusted in this way. I truly appreciate the opportunity.”
Perttu graduated in 2016 with a vocational qualification in business and administration. He began his career in customer service for a telecom operator, resolving technical fault situations. Troubleshooting customer issues proved rewarding, which led him to apply for a role in software support at Granlund. Over time, testing started to interest him more deeply.
“A QA role was open about a year and a half ago, but I was not selected then. Earlier this year I was offered the chance to split my time, half in QA tasks and half in software support.”
In September 2025, Perttu started full-time as a QA Specialist at the Helsinki office in Finland.
Granlund Manager
Granlund Manager is the truly end-to-end real estate management software that connects maintenance, sustainability and capital projects in one, strategic view.

Flawless software performance motivates
erttu works with Granlund Manager, a real estate management software solution used by property owners, property managers and maintenance service providers.
Through the software, building occupants can report faults and service needs. It also supports long-term capital planning and enables monitoring of electricity consumption and other property data.
“My role is to ensure that the software is high-quality and functions correctly. I create test plans and test cases for new features and verify bug fixes and resolved issues.”
According to Perttu, most issues relate to styling or functionality. A styling issue may mean that a text element is misaligned or displayed incorrectly.
“This work requires precision and attention to even the smallest details. It is also creative in a way. I try to anticipate different ways the software might be used and consider what a new feature or bug fix could impact elsewhere in the system.”
To balance screen-based work, Perttu goes to the gym and cycles, either on a stationary bike or outdoors. Next summer he plans to take part in a 300-kilometre cycling event around the Finnish Lake Saimaa.
“The work is physically light, but mentally demanding. For me, exercise is the best counterbalance. When I am cycling, I rarely think about work.”
Learning something new every day
The new role has felt rewarding for Perttu. Each day brings something new to learn.
“It is genuinely motivating to spot an issue and get it fixed before the customer ever notices it. That’s when I feel my work truly makes a difference. What matters most to me is that customers are satisfied and do not constantly encounter problems.”
Although Perttu does not have formal education in testing, his experience in software support has been a significant advantage.
“Working in support meant I learned Granlund Manager thoroughly. That knowledge has helped a lot in testing. Going forward, I plan to expand my expertise through additional training.”
Perttu works in a 13-person team, including three testers. The team’s support has been important.
“We have a strong sense of collaboration and a positive working atmosphere. Together we make the software more robust and more user friendly.”
Perttu mainly works remotely from Espoo, in Southern Finland. Remote work also allows him to spend time in his Eastern-Finland hometown Joensuu, while he values time at the office as well.
